Vigamox Ophthalmic Solution

Common use

Vigamox Ophthalmic Solution 0.5% are a prescription medication for treating bacterial eye infections. Vigamox is highly effective in treating bacterial conjunctivitis, with a cure rate of over 90% in most cases. Bacterial conjunctivitis is a common eye infection that causes redness, swelling, itching, and discharge from the eye. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests bacterial conjunctivitis is most commonly caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Staphylococcus aureus.

Dosage and direction

Use Vigamox Ophthalmic Solution exactly as your doctor prescribes. Follow all directions on your prescription. Do not use Vigamox medicine in larger or smaller quantities or longer than recommended. If you put on contact lenses, remove them before applying Vigamox Ophthalmic Solution. Wash your hands prior to using the eye drops. Ask your healthcare provider if contact lenses can be put on again after applying the medication.
To apply the eye drops: Tilt your head back and pull the lower eyelid of the infected eye to make a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye. Look up and press the dropper to push out a drop. Close your eyes briefly with your head down without blinking. Put only the number of drops your doctor has prescribed. If you are prescribed more than one eye drop, wait about five minutes between the two eye drops. Wait ten minutes before using any other eye drops your doctor prescribed.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have a medical history of recent eye surgery and eye problems such as dry eye syndrome and corneal problems.
If you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy, don't hesitate to contact your doctor before using Vigamox Ophthalmic Solution. If you are a nursing woman, please talk to your doctor before using the Vigamox.

Contraindications

Vigamox Ophthalmic Solution use is contraindicated in patients who are known to be hypersensitive to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones.

Possible side effect

The ocular side effects of Vigamox Ophthalmic Solution are the most common side effects experienced by patients using this medication. The most frequently reported ocular side effects to include: Eye irritation; Redness; Tearing; Eye discharge (In rare cases, Vigamox may cause eye discharge, a sign of an allergic reaction or a more severe eye infection); Blurred vision.

Drug interaction

Let your doctor know if you are consuming any prescription and non-prescription medication, including vitamins and herbal supplements, before starting Vigamox Ophthalmic Solution.

Missed dose

If you missed the dose of Vigamox Ophthalmic Solution, instill it as soon as possible. Do not instill more drops to compensate for the missed dose.

Overdose

As Vigamox Ophthalmic Solution is meant for external use, overdose cases are unlikely. However, immediately after accidental ingestion, contact your doctor or the nearest hospital. If you have instilled extra drops of it, wash your eyes thoroughly with water.

Storage

Store this medicine at room temperature in the original container at 30°C. Please protect it from light and moisture. Keep Vigamox out of the reach and sight of children. Do not use Vigamox Ophthalmic Solution after the expiry date has passed.
